Lou Ryan is from London UK but moved to Hong Kong in 2008. She attended art college before pursuing a career in advertising and marketing for many years. After having children she began painting full time in her studio in Teddington UK. Most of her earlier works are vibrant still lifes in acrylic on block canvas using a palette knife. More recently she has also produced some works inspired by local cityscapes, landscapes and abandoned villages capturing the diversity that is Hong Kong.
"My still life work is mostly influenced by my love of colour. In this work the proportion of colours and how they react together is more important to me than the subject itself. I deliberately arrange simple compositions to minimise detail in order to amplify colour combinations for expressive effect."
For the third year running she will exhibiting with Artists Abroad in The Rotunda, Exchange Square, Central, Hong Kong from 12th - 24th Nov 2012. Open daily from 10am - 8pm.
